As part of the Victorian Government's $167.83 million investment in Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) facility infrastructure, the VICSES Broadmeadows (Fawkner) Unit has been relocated from Mahoneys Road, Campbellfield, to 1161 Sydney Road, Hadfield VIC.
VICSES Broadmeadows volunteers are among the most active in Victoria, responding to around 540 requests for assistance a year. The facility renamed from VICSES Broadmeadows to VICSES Fawkner, reflecting the new address.
Situated in the local government area of Hume, population growth is predicted to increase by 64 per cent by 2030, placing increased pressure on the Broadmeadows unit and surrounding units to respond effectively to the local community and continue to assist Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and fire services throughout the state.
The new fit-for-purpose facility reflects VICSES' commitment and dedication to the local community and enable an expansion of local services, while supporting the retention and recruitment of new volunteers.
In collaboration with VICSES, considerable consultation took place with the Broadmeadows unit, as well as the local council, affected parties and the local community (as required), to ensure that the new facility meets the needs of a growing community, now and into the future.
