As part of the Victorian Government's $125 million investment in Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) facility infrastructure, a new facility was delivered for the VICSES Emerald Unit, at 277-287 Belgrave-Gembrook Road, Emerald.
The VICSES Emerald Unit's 51 active volunteers are among the busiest in Victoria and in 2020-21, the Unit has been the state's busiest VICSES Unit, responding to 1915 requests for assistance following a period of severe weather events.
Situated in the local government area of Cardinia, population growth is predicted to increase by 108 per cent by 2030, placing increased pressure on the Emerald Unit and surrounding units to respond effectively to the local community and continue to assist Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and fire services throughout the state.
With FIMMA Constructions awarded as the principle contractor in October 2020, the new fit-for-purpose facility reflects VICSES' commitment and dedication to the local community and enable an expansion of local services, while supporting the retention and recruitment of new volunteers.
In collaboration with VICSES, we are undertaking considerable consultation with the Emerald Unit, as well as the local council, affected parties and the local community, to ensure that the new facility meets the needs of a growing community, now and into the future.
