In the 2017-18 and 2018-19 State Budget, as well as via the Community Support Fund in 2015-16, the Victorian Government allocated $2.2 million for the construction of the new Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) facility, this is in addition to a contribution of $1.25 million from Federal Government and $2.25 million from Point Lonsdale SLSC and donations.
Situated in the local government area of Queenscliff, the Point Lonsdale SLSC plays an important role in the safety of swimmers and beachgoers, and the new clubhouse will ensure lifesavers have the facilities they need to respond to incidents and keep people safe in the water.
This new fit-for-purpose facility will reflect the commitment and dedication of club volunteers to the local community and enable an expansion of local services, while supporting the retention and recruitment of new volunteers.
The new clubhouse will enable the club to expand and upgrade their facilities, catering for increased training and education programs and providing opportunities for other community groups to utilise the new space.
In addition to the construction of the new facility, Point Lonsdale SLSC received $175,000 to facilitate two portable shipping containers to assist the local club with life saving operations.
Point Lonsdale SLSC has undertaken considerable consultation with the local council, affected parties and the local community, to ensure that the new facility meet the needs of a growing local community, now and into the future.
