As part of the 2018–19 State Budget, the Victorian Government allocated $2 million for construction of the new Mentone Lifesaving Club (LSC) facility.
Situated in the local government area of Kingston, the Mentone LSC plays an important role in the safety of swimmers and beachgoers. The new clubhouse will ensure lifesavers have the facilities they need to respond to incidents and keep people safe in the water.
The new fit-for-purpose facility will enable an expansion of local services, while supporting the retention and recruitment of new volunteer lifesavers, as well as new junior 'nipper' members.
The state of the art facility will include upgraded training spaces, a publicly accessible rooftop viewing deck, public toilet amenities and change facilities for people of all abilities. The building will also incorporate sustainability features such as rainwater tanks, solar panels, efficient glazing and water-efficient fittings.
The foreshore precinct will be redeveloped to include outdoor showers, updated pedestrian access and improved vehicle access to the lower promenade to support Mentone LSC operations and emergency vehicle access.
The City of Kingston has undertaken considerable consultation with Mentone LSC, local residents and businesses to ensure that the new facility meets the needs of a growing local community, now and into the future.
