In the 2017-18 State Budget, the Victorian Government allocated $650,000 for a re-purposed search-and-rescue vessel for Hastings Volunteer Coast Guard (AVCG Hastings).
Situated in the local government area of Mornington Peninsula Shire, AVCG Hastings plays an important role in the safety of water users in the local area, by responding to marine emergencies and raising community awareness about marine safety.
AVCG Hastings has received a re-purposed vessel from Volunteer Marine Rescue Hervey Bay. The Noosa Cat 3100 model is also operated by other Victorian Marine Search and Rescue (MSAR) units.
The re-purposed vessel will enable the committed and dedicated volunteers to continue to service their local community and assist other emergency service agencies.
The MSAR office within Emergency Management Victoria is in regular communication with AVCG Hastings to ensure volunteers are provided with the vessels and equipment they need to keep their local community safe on the water.
