Community residential facility at Maidstone

Maidstone, 3012

We recently refurbished the former immigration detention centre at 53 Hampstead Road, Maidstone to provide short-term accommodation to individuals exiting the prison system during COVID-19. This temporary facility is aimed at helping residents reintegrate into the community and secure employment and longer-term housing.

Refurbishment was completed in May 2020, including painting, replacement of floors and upgrades to security and landscaping. The temporary facility can accommodate up to 44 people who work alongside a team of case managers, health and housing specialists at the facility.

Port Phillip Prison medical expansion

Truganina, 3029

We recently completed an upgrade and expansion of Port Phillip Prison’s medical unit, adding 20 medical beds to the maximum-security prison.

The upgrades include new facilities to support dialysis, bariatric medicine, chemotherapy, rehabilitation services and end-of-life care, as well as new treatment rooms with telehealth capabilities and a new ambulance bay.

This enables a higher level of care to be provided on site, reducing the number of prisoners that require escort to hospital and reliance on resources in community-based hospitals.

Youth Justice upgrades and expansion

Multiple locations

We’re expanding the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct and Melbourne Youth Justice Centre to help support the rehabilitation of young people and keep staff and the community safe.

The 32-bed expansion at Malmsbury houses young people nearing the end of their sentence and transitioning out of custody. The 36-bed expansion at the Melbourne Youth Justice Centre will help ensure the youth justice system is safe, secure and well-equipped to meet demand prior to completion of the Cherry Creek Youth Justice Facility in 2022.

Corella Place hardening

Hopkins Correctional Centre, 3377

We’re enhancing physical and electronic security at Corella Place, a 40-bed residential facility located next to Ararat’s Hopkins Corrections Centre.

Upgrades include the installation of a new perimeter fence, additional electronic security and detection measures, improvements to CCTV and alarm systems and a renovation of security monitoring rooms and equipment at the facility.

Corella Place houses sex offenders who have completed jail sentences and are subject to court ordered supervision under Victoria’s Serious Sex Offenders Monitoring Act.

Fulham Correctional Centre expansion

Sale, 3850

We recently completed a $78 million expansion of the Fullham Correctional Centre in Gippsland adding new prisoner accomodation, activity hubs, telehealth facilities and reception areas.

The project created 68 jobs in the Gippsland region during construction, and a further 50 full-time operational roles.

This expansion forms part of the government’s $1.8 billion investment in the 2019-20 Budget to provide flexible prison capacity, deliver programs to break the cycle of reoffending and keep people out of prison.
