Chisholm Road Prison

Barwon Prison Precinct, Barwon South West

We're building a new maximum security prison in the Barwon South West region near Geelong,  next to the existing prison precinct which includes Barwon Prison and Marngoneet Correctional Centre.

The Chisholm Road Prison Project is a part of the government’s commitment to improve community safety, and ensure the prison system is safe, secure and well-equipped to meet demand.

We are keeping the community informed as construction progresses, through the project’s Community Advisory Group and regular updates to this page.

Project overview

The 1248-bed facility includes a number of administration, accommodation, health and prison industry buildings and offer programs designed to reduce the risk of prisoners reoffending and maximise their chances of successful reintegration back into the community.

Community Advisory Group

A Community Advisory Group (CAG) including local residents, stakeholders and councillors from the City of Greater Geelong is helping to guide the development of the new prison and keep the local community informed as the project progresses.
